Alternatives to rollapp.com?

I've been using rollapp.com (not free) to run Linux programs on my Chromebook and was wondering if there are any similar alternatives to it.

I don't want to install linux on my chromebook, i wish to keep it as just chrome browser OS, but want to be able to run things like Gimp (which is what rollapp lets me do).

I just imagine that there is someway to run some server software on my Linux desktop machine and access it via some chrome plugin to run desktop programs remotely? Or maybe there are some fast/lightweight remote desktop chrome apps?

Just looking for suggestions here.

I've seen maybe a dozen sites like that over the last 20 years but so far most of them have failed.

Guess you could make a system at SuseStudio.com but there has to be other places that still exist.

You can make a small usb flash drive and it should get you by for a while too.

I once looked into something like this a year or two ago, I seem to remember that there were VNC "apps" for Chrome?

If so, just install and run a VNC server on your desktop. It's pretty much the same as Windwos's "remote desktop" program.

If you plan on trying to use it outside your home network, you'd probably want to do some form of tunneling (SSH or VPN or something) instead of exposing the VNC port to the world.
