Alternative to a Reboot for having USB drive not automount

Sometimes my thumb-drive daemon will not work. Is there a service I could restart to fix this?

Also If I insert a CD/DVD that is having problems being read, is there a alternative way to interrupt it instead of using the paperclip method in the hole of the player.

Thanks in advance!

For the CD/DVD at the commandline type:
Code:
eject /dev/sdx
