Altering the appearance of the taskbar ? I can't find the .xpm file

I want to dive into heavy duty alteration of the look of my desktop.
My first job - to change the look of the taskbar and window frames.
From what I've read, this can be done with gimp, I just don't know how to locate the .xpm file which represents the taskbar.
I also need to find the window frame pieces,min-max-close buttons, and the "K" button (you press to see your programs).

I pretty much want to change everything as far as the taskbar gos'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try downloading a theme from maybe KDElook or freshmeat. Then you have a basis for building your custom theme package :)

Thanks for the advice, but what I am really looking for is the name of the file which is the taskbar. I have seen that these files all end in '.xpm' . So I am looking for a file called whatever.xpm .

I type 'locate taskbar' at a prompt, and many files are found, but none of them have an .xpm extension.

I don't know the name of the file that I am looking for, and there are LOTS of '.xpm' files to weed through.

So if anyone might know what I am looking for, please save me some time.
