Alt+F2 not working in KDE

i have installed KDE on Gentoo, and i see mention of using ALT+F2 mentioned as a quick way to open a Run Command dialog. this doesn't seem to work on my system. any idea why this would be? sorry if the question is vague or the answer obvious, but i am a relative noob.

check that it's turned on

Go KDE control center, Accessibility, key shortcuts and restore the defaults

Also if you are using a MS keyboard make sure that FN is turned on.

ALt-F2 is a KDE default, now if you for instance chose
for KDE to behave like Windows WinKey+R would work,
but Alt-F2 wouldn't.
