ALSA, Is this an error message?

Hya,

My penguin: Debian etch on Toshiba laptop.

Software: Skype

Question: I am getting following message. What is it?
Code:
ALSA lib control.c:910:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL copy
Fact: It looks like that ALSA works, however, video is occasionally screwed up. I would like to figure out if this is related to video, as my camera (USB) has microphone in it.

So far: Web search gives me several suggestions, however none of them has identical message, (last word insted of "copy", default or something else)

Has anybody ever seen this message?

Happy Penguins!

Did a google on your message, and turned up this link, with a fix.

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.alsa.devel/43740

Don't know if this is the same problem, but it at least it is the same message...

Hya,

Thanks for your reply. Although the problem was not same, you gave me a hint. Now, I do not have the message.

Following what I did.

The message I had has "copy" at the end, while yours "default" or "hw:0".
Removing /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf file gives me same error with alsamexer. -> So, situation is different.

I did not see any "copy" in udev files.

I checked ~/.asoundrc which looks like
Code:
pcm.copy {
type plug
slave {
pcm hw
}
route_policy copy
}
which has "copy" in it.

I simply removed .asoundrc hoping it is made if necessay by whatever application.

BINGO!! That message is gone. So far, Skype and alsamixer both work.

Happy Penguins!
