ALSA + 2 Sound Cards
Hi. I am running Suse 9.1. When I use alsamixer from the terminal, the default card, my onboard one pulls up. So I invoke alsamixer -c 1 to get my USB soundcard up which is recognized successfully and I can set the levels. However, my computer keeps trying to use the default soundcard, my onboard one, not my USB "hw:1". How do I make my USB card the default?

is there a way to change it in the bios?

Do you use your onboard sound at all? If not, just disable in bios or prevent linux for loading the modules, this'll mean you have USB sound card as hw:0
It's a work around solution but if you don't use the onboard, it'll save you system resources :) |
How do I prevent linux from loading the module for my onboard card... I never use it only my USB audio device.
UPDATE: Got it working by disabling AC97 onboard via the BIOS.... works like a charm now... my zeppelin collection thanks you :) |
