Airport + Linux = ???

Ok im running Mandrake 8.1 (sort of). I need to know how to find out this "domain name" and "host name" that the cable connection needs to know. We have a cable modem running into an Apple Airport, spreads out the IPs like so: 10.0.0.1 is DNS host, 10.0.0.2 and up is for connections. It's also set to send out DHCP signals.

I need to get my computer on the net. Ive spent about a week solid just trying to figure this damn problem out. Ive tried manually setting the IP, doesnt help. Every time i start up my computer, if one of my eth's is configured for the net, it fails. I have a 3COM900B and Realtek 8139. I installed the 3COM because i thought the realtek was the source of the problem. A step by step configure for a cable modem would work for me. I just havent found out anything anywhere! Please anyone, anywhere, this is a real problem!

have you tried setup in a console? or maybe netconfig or netconf (don't exactly remember) or linuxconf or something like that? some config files for RedHat-like distros are in /etc/sysconfig
