Question Additional hard drive only usable by root.

I'm using an Ubuntu derivate (Linux Mint to be exact), I used the partition manager (GParted) in Linux to format a hard drive I added (as slave) but to use the partition manager I have to be root which is why I guess now as a regular user I can only view it (the slave hd) but not do any file operations on it.

So, how can I do to make my regular user account be able to gain full read/write access to my 2nd hard drive?

did you make a filesystem on the drive? otherwise, you probably have to change the permissions. do ls -ld on the mount point and post the results, along with the entry for mounting it in /etc/fstab.

Check the permissions on the mount point. If it's 755 (-rwxr-xr-x), and owned by root, group root, you will only be able to read.

Either run (as root), "chown <your user ID> <mount point>", such as

chown myuser /mnt/external

Or, you can do something dirty, like:

"chmod 777 <mountpoint>". NOT recommended, though, but doable, if you're the only one who ever uses your system.
