I mainly use KDE as I find it the easiest when it comes to accessing what I need (apps files etc). AnyWay the problem I have with Gnome is I cant find a way to add a text file to the desktop that I can click on to add "Info" or things to like I do with KDE.
Does anyone know if its possible to add a text file to Gnome DeskTop& how.
I like to have a file called "Important-Info" that I can add information to that I can refer to for using Linux etc.
I can easily add other folders etc but not a file.
Using Nautilus gives me the same options as when right clicking on DeskTop to Create a Folder or File, seems no different & it gives me the Statement "Couldn't display "/root/Desktop/Important-Info/Test2".
-In this case I tried creating folder first then Test file "Test1".
The only options you get with Gnome is to create a folder or a Document (empty file) which you can't add any text to.
With KDE I can right click on DeskTop & get a option to create a Text File which when created I can right click on to add any text or words etc I want.
I also tried the touch command which creates a file but I cant even open afterwards either like in first case & get the same same statement as above. - Couldn't display "/root/Desktop/Important-Info/Test1".
PS. If the only options with Nautilus by right clicking on it are to create folder or a Document file.
In other words I cant work out how I can create a "file.txt" unless I use terminal for command line etc maybe? So how do I create .txt using Nautilus
Create Document is what you want, you don't want a "folder" that is a directory and there term for a file is "Document" If you want to make a text "Document" make sure to put .txt at the end.
Thanks ; much appreciate help.
I just rebooted machine & to my surprise the file I tried creating was on my DeskTop, not sure if it was created from using "touch" command or from trying to use Nautilus?
But its the first time I have ever had to reboot to create a file: AnyWay its somehow on my DeskTop now but wasn't there before I rebooted' Not sure why it took a reboot?
I might try another one & see if I have to reboot this time .
Thanks ,your way with nautilus worked well, infact I didnt even have to Drag it to desktop ,I just created it under "Desktop" in nautilus like I did last time but didnt have to reboot .
I was having some trouble with my PC before which is what caused me to reboot it ,otherwise I would still be wondering whats going on?
All is well now
