adding boot from usb support with floppy?
hi there.
i have a dell inspiron8000 which i would like to have boot from a usb flash drive so that can carry a linux distro on my mp3 player, unfortunalty the bios i have does not support boot from usb. so i am just wondering if there is such thing as a floppy disk that will allow usb support: put in the floppy before booting switch on the computer then the bios will boot from floppy the floppy loads whatever is needed to boot from floppy and then boots the device. thanks for the help |
Hi,
Yes that's possible: put the kernel and bootloader on the floppy and your rootfs on the USB device... Note that with a rootfs on an USB device, you'll probably have to patch your kernel ('cause of the asynchronous USB detection). Oliv' |
