ACID maintenance and performance tuning using sql

Hi all,
i'm running acid on mysql that collects the allerts from 10 sensors.
I've read the faq and manual about the performance tuning but i'd like to ask you all if somebody can give me some good idea on how to perform quick maintenance, expecially in pruning the events, directly using sql on the database and avoiding the explosion of the db.
I'm new in sql and in the db schema used by acid.

thank you
Mik
