Accessing a second hard disk

I have windows installed on one hard disk in my computer. Linux is also installed on a partition on the disk.

I would like to be able to access my second drive from within linux. Somehow, I've seen it done before, but I cannot remeber how.

Anyone know?

why would you use windows if it was free rather than if it costs you money? use linux because it's BETTER, not cos it's a free replacement. that's certainly not fitting with the linux "way of life"

anyway, second drive. use "fdisk -l" to list all your partitions on hard drives conencted to the system to find the partition ID'a i'd guess it'd be hdb1. then create a mount entry in /etc/fstab:

/dev/hdb /mnt/otherdrive vfat defaults 0 0

create the /mnt/ directory and mount it with "mount /mnt/otherdrive"

Thanks

Thanks for your help, I'll give it a go.

Explaination of the signature: I'll always use Linux. i.e Microsoft will never offer its products for free would they?

I need more help

I've modifed the /etc/fstab file and added what you said to the end. I then created a directory called /mnt/.

My trouble now is how to mount it?

Yes, from command prompt.

More clarification:

The entry in fstab will mount the drive automatically every time you boot.

Using the mount command at the prompt is a one-shot action. The drive will be unmounted at shutdown, or when you issue the umount command for the drive, and will not be available until you issue mount again.
