about fstab

In redhat 7.1 fstabs contain two lines :
1.none /proc proc defaults 0 0
2.none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0

I had make my own linux base on redhat 7.1, and minize the size of os. I used the same fstab to my system, the proc should be mounted but it didn't. why?

What is pts, devpts, and parameters gid, mode mean?

Thanks.

I hv similar lines in my fstab & /proc gets mounted.....what does mount -l shows??.....
pts, devpts refers to filesystem type....cat /proc/filesystems ......mode 620 sets this
permission for all files......try :
grep "Mounting proc" /var/log/messages

& see what u get.....hv u made any changes in ur system's initialization files??

i really can't see a problem.. am i missing something? what do you think is wrong? if you are concerned about the "none" bit then that's because /proc and /dev/pts are not *real* filesystems, they are virtual and required for interrupts and a billion other things.
