a small glitch

hi there....

i am a comparitve newbie to the Linux community...
i had a dual boot system with Red Hat 7.0 and Windows ME loaded...

now, the problem is that my cd-rom has konked out and co-incidentally my system has also crashed...

now i know how to format my hard disk and install windows but i am all at sea with the installation of linux...how am i gonna do it without my cd-rom....

i was thinking that if i could copy the red hat linux installation cd's to my hard disk from a friend's place, then can i install it back at my home????

if this can be done, how do i go about doing it????

i would be very grateful to anybody who can help me out from this predicament......

You can always dump the images to the hard drive and then use a floppy for installation. The floppy image for this is in the cd itself, in the directory called images. Read the README in the same directory for more details.

Just copy the iso images to your hard drive. Create a bootdisk to start the installation. When it asks what type of installation you want to do, just choose from the harddrive and tell it where the iso images are stored.
