A one-inch black border on my screen

Greetings fine people!

Okay, my desktop is REALLY ugly. Linux (RedHat 7.1) has it where there is a one-inch black border around my computer screen. There is my screen, and the actual 'content' of my monitor starts one inch away from the plastic monitor. Do I have a virtual desktop? If so, how can I get rid of it? How can I get rid of the border? Thanks in advance.

have you tried the controls on the monitor itself, to stretch and expand the screen out vertical and horizontally?
you can always try to reconfigure X again...try a different resolution to see if it does the same thing with any resolution.

You might also want to try starting X, then running
from an xterm.

I'll try the xvidtune command. I have already tried to use a higher resolution; all it does is make everything smaller. I'll mess around with the monitor, too. Thanks!
