is there a linux bios program(firmware) that can be downloaded or made... i mean seriously, if anyone knows how to write one and have it loaded upon the bootstrap then i wood like to know.
per Ass-id: "She has a video-clip of a baby orangutan falling over which sums up her philosophy of life but unfortunately she's forgotten her hotmail password, so we can't see it." = Silly Text
I don't understand those strange strings, maybe because I don't use IRC.
There's one program to upgrade firmware for Linux. But it works only with Plextor drives: pxupdate. I don't have a link now (it's long and I'm using lynx), but it can be found on many ftps somewhere in cdrecord/firmware/plextor
I have gotten some info-z from some of you- to you i must give props- well wut i decided to do was to put some a this stuff to the test... i was/am hoping to do a B|0S upgrade on my mobo so dat Linvx would at last see my 80BG (dat is fat yo!)... I was really crumped to get dis going but to my 'Dis-may i read this statement from da site:
"Please note, that if the power is interrupted during the upgrade process your MultiCom Firewall could become unuseable and require repairs from your local distributor. Continue at your own risk. "
I say: this SUCKS! mainly because i live in uh area that gets a lot of power sagz and da like... is dis true that my mobo may be made to be dead if the power goes out while i am doing de flash on da B|05? if dat is tr00 then i may not want to do it... if anyonez out there has had a similar experience and can give me pointers on howz to flash safely my b-i-o-s then i would give thanks for it
easy suggestion ... buy an UPS, but not so easy on the wallet!
The warning is logical, if the bios update is not completed and the power is removed, then the startup after the power returns will not work. The mobo will not necessarily be broken hardware-wise, but will never boot again until the bios chip is reflashed, which you can't do because you can't boot, so you can't run the flash update utility.
All that said, though, can't you specify the CHS to linux kernel in the lilo.conf and get around the bios limitation? Just a thought.
have u thut about contactin yur mutherbord manyofacter on how u shood flash yo bios safely ?? knowing wut kind of mb/ B|o5 it is probably make it easier yo for ne1 to help yur situashon ?
Distribution: I created my own by writing my own kernel, windowing environment(s) and my own apps, of course.

What a fool... Sir, I beg you to speak the Queen's English.
At any rate, it is COMMON KNOWLEDGE that you can not lose power during any flashing of ROM devices least your motherboard will be rendered useless. Please don't post retarded questions and cease the ghetto lingo. I don't appreciate it (yes, I am annoyed) and I'm sure the unwashed masses have no like for it either.
