a frustrated linux user....

am frustrated , i am stuck .. nowhere to go except going back to windows xp professional...

Here is my story.

for last 3 days i am tring to install my wintv go tv card on my linux suse 9.1 machine. But it does not work. i searched all over the web, posting in this forum and in google groups for help, and followed all suggestions given to me. Till now i put in 48 hours working on this thing. here are my postings.

Before i bought this tv card i research over the net i got a feeling that this card is widely used on linux machines. Also suse website shows it is fully supported

in google groups

After following the above and not getting any possitive results. I called Hauppauge support, but apparently they do not support linux.

As this card is fully supported by suse 9.1, I called up suse for help, they told they will help me with this. then i even asked for paid support $39 per incident, But is seems they cannot help me immediatly, so they asked to send a mail they support asking for advanced support.

Same thing happend when i tried to install linux on my machine. Here are the postings for that.

After all this my point is if i need to put at least 48 hours to install any new hardware or software, i thinks it is nuts..

so i am frustrated , i am stuck .. nowhere to go except going back to windows xp professional...

Thanks

i know linux is not for every one. I tried all options, i am even ready to pay money for suse advanced help, Bottom line is nothing seems to be working. As i mentioned previously this piece of hardware is supported by suse 9.1, still it is not working.

If you know tell what i am missing... help greatly appreciated.

error messages .. things you tried .... ... links that work ...........

anyways, if its "fully supported" (i wouldn't trust them if they wouldn't talk), then reinstall suse with the card in the computer, and go thru the install carefully just in case (tho i never used suse, so i wouldn't know if it require and user input for the install)

You might need to compile the kernel to add support for your card

quoted from Hauppauges support site

Linux drivers, applications and LinuxTV
The Linux driver for the WinTV card is now part of the Linux kernel (version 2.2 and newer).
The LinuxTV web site is at www.linuxtv.org/
To see some notes from a Linux user on his WinTV installation, click here.
New Linux developments on the bttv driver for the WinTV can be found here
Click here for the Hauppauge Linux help page for SuSE and Red Hat Linux
To use teletext under Linux, use Martin Buck's VideoText for Linux

finally i found out that the newer versions of wintv go cards does not work. So i went and bought wintv pvr 250(paid $150). but apparantly suse 9.1 does not recognize this card at all. Called up suse they told this card is not supported.

i had it all. Started installing windows xp professional 8:00 pm est. i am going back to windows for good.

good luck.
