A few newbie ?'s

got a few questions, hopefully someone can help me out...(using Slackware 8.1)

1. When i reboot i have no sound, i have to open gmix, just open and the sound comes on, i have the levels set to default and all so dont have to adjust the sliders. just open it real quick....why is that??? its really not a big deal, but just wondering why

2. If I open konqueror from a terminal i get this message right before it opens.....

LibGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
LibGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering

3. On occasions when i open something in fluxbox it doesnt open the right way, it goes into the top left corner and can only see the tab, only happens once in a while tho. I have to close and reopen.

4. How can i get kppp to dock into the slit on fluxbox?? if i choose dock on connect it goes into the corner like i explained in question 3, when i was using mandrake i had no problems, it docked right in there.

Thanks for any help everyone

Just an answer to #1...

The hardware gets initialized to 0 for all channels,
and the driver doesn't change that ... to have it "noisy"
by default you might want to look at command-line mixers
and add one to your startup-script (distro-dependend)

Cheers,
Tink

My sound does not act that way, could it be that there is a driver not loaded?

I don't know, but try running lsmod before and after opening the mixer. See if there is a difference.

#2 may be a file permissions problem. Does it do the same thing with the root user.

yea the #2 was a permission problem, and about #3 when i click minimize it just goes into the taskbar (fluxbox) i just send to desktop 2,3,4 to get out of the way, read somewhere i need a patch, and about the sound, didnt check the module thing yet, but do you use KDE Phillips?? because with KDE i noticed that the kmix settings get saved with the session and when reboot sound comes back right away....guess in fluxbox there isnt a way to save the session, although when i was using mandrake it did save....but maybe i do have a problem since my sound has been going out every once in a while.....installed ALOT of stuff today, so maybe that had something to do with it???? -thanks everyone

ok, David, you were right, the sound modules arent loaded when i reboot, once i open a mixer they load. And also every certain amount of hours it goes out also, this is starting to confuse me now, lol.

EDIT: i found this........

"When the ALSA sound driver loads it mutes all the settings. I use a script at startup which sets things to defaults that I feel are reasonable and safe. Every time the laptop goes into power saving mode I have to unmute the settings again as well."

So that must be it, when the moniter shuts off by itself after a certain amount of time the sound mutes?? i guess/hope that the problem.
