a bug maybe in the new kernel 2.4.19?

i thought i might use the new stable kernel 2.4.19 yesterday. so i took the
.config from my old kernel (2.4.18) and put it in the dir for 2.4.19.

i typed make oldconfig, and i just hit return the whole way though to keep the
default settings. i then did a make dep and make clean and make bzImage. i
havent got modules included.

anyway i tryed out the bzImage and it worked, it booted ok. albiet that patch
had to be reapplied (linux-2.4.18-blockdev-updates.patch) to get rid of an
error message. i also replaced the file that creates the tux image with my
company logo image.

Then i went back to the kernel, tried out an option (changed the processor to
586) which didnt work. so i rebuilt it again to how it was when it was working
(i saved the configuration) and it didnt work. it just, like the last one, had
a blank screen.

I had to completely rm -rf the kernel and untar it again and start from fresh,
this time without the patch or the logo and it did the same thing. :S

what do you think? could this be a kernel bug?
