Post 502 user does not exist but it owns some directories

Hi all,

I have quite weird problem.
I checked /etc/passwd on my RHEL6 and has NO entry of any user with UID 502.

However, there are some directories owned by this user 502

for example :
drwxr-xr-x. 3 502 domainusers 4096 Feb 1 09:30 folder123

whenever i set ownership to other user (lets say "abc"), after a while, it will revert back to user 502.

I think the problem might related to these conditions:
- it was standalone RHEL, prob i created a local user "abc" (with 502 UID?)
- then it was joined to windows domain, and there is a Active Directory user with identical username "abc"

The question is:
- what mostlikely cause the problem, why it always revert the ownership back to 502?
- how to force delete "none existing" 502 user ?

Thanks in advance....

Based on "domainusers" group, I'm suspecting Samba is at work here...

You can use auditd to monitor access to the file and find out what processes/user touches it
