3d hardware acceleration problem

I had a Gentoo 64-bit system running nicely with hardware acceleration. However, I reformatted my computer and reinstalled Gentoo (after trying some other distros) - and now hardware acceleration doesn't work properly. I think that something is not set up correctly, as before (on my old gentoo system) I could run beryl excellently (no lag) however, now it lags so much you can't even use it.

Specs:
AMD Athlon64 3200+
Radeon X800 (with the radeon open source drivers - on both old and new systems)
ASUS AN8-V
1 GB of RAM (2x 512 mb)

I have tried the 2.6.19 kernel (with DRI inbuilt - and the x11-drm package) as well as the 2.6.20 kernel (with DRI inbuilt - x11-drm wouldn't compile) and all had the some problem. I have also tried Beryl 0.1.4 and Beryl SVN (problem was with both of them), also, my old system used Beryl 0.1.4

Code:

Well, I somehow managed to get it working :S
I found out that I hadn't added
Option "AIGLX" "true" to screen layouts in my xorg.conf, but after I rebooted I noticed no change. I reemerged x11-xserver (with aiglx use flag) and now it works (I think I must have skipped a section :S)
