Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

so I was thinking that i would do a
chmod both those to 777
MY Question is HOW to I make it such that
dvd drive 1 sr0 mounts under /media/01/
as /media/01/**Name of the dvd volume**
dvd drive 2 sr1 mounts under /media/02/
as /media/02/**Name of the dvd volume**
this last sticking point is all i have to solve
so can i put something in the fstab -- and what would that be
or can i do an explicit mount ( run a script )
and i am thinking id a given dvd still auto mounts
under /media/**Name of the dvd volume**
then that is no harm
my system OpenSuse 11.4 32bit 2 optical drives
you might have a hard time getting help to break USA law .
yes you can make 1 one and only one back up under us law ( though you have to break the law to do it )
but it is against the us law to transcode it , that is a clear violation of the DMCA .
I had hard time with floppy mounts in ubuntu. I figured out that "udev" have ruleset to autodetect and mount devices, there is a dir (i forgot where) where ruleset(including naming scheme) is placed.Work with fstab produced bad results for me(manual mount's,flush,etc..)

In response to the Matter of breaking USA law.
again , these dvd were made with a dvd appliance - that is why they all have the same name DVD VIDEO RECORDING.
I have complete and total - unQualified ownership of the content.
The org content was on analog tape.
in fact *I* am the only one on the planet that does have such ownership.
Analog tapes (many) were made into DVDs by means of the dvd appliance.
I simply wish to Repurpose the the mpg2 ( VOBS ) into wmv, To transcode it all.
( going back to the org tape is impossible )
DMCA --absolutely not applicable.
No laws will be broken.
So -- You are very very wrong about my intent and the legality of my task
Note : 'Hollywood' dvd of motion pictures or *any* authored dvd will tend to NOT have such a generic name. If you go to the dvd section of any Library or the entire holdings of netflix You will find that they all have "Volume" titles that are specific to that they are. They all have unique names.
If that was my goal .... I would be done ...now!
so in summary : I will not be breaking any law of the USA or anywhere else.
What i intend is -- as we say here in the USA --- AOK .....mate.
This thread is closed. LQ members have every right to suggest or question the legalities. I too question this. If you have any questions then contact me via PM.
