2.4.20-8 kernel issue

Hi,

I have a redhat 9 with kernels 2.4.20 and 2.6.0
If i copy the config-2.4.20-8 file to /usr/src/linux2.4/.config
and run a
make config
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install

Will this overwrite my /lib/modules/2.4.20-8 directory all over again, since it already exists. is it ok if I perform the above steps again, will it overwrite any previous 2.4 settings?

Thanks,
Nik

AFAIK, 2.6 uses a different modules system. in gentoo, the modules are seperated based on kernel version (2.4 modules 2.5 modules and 2.6 modules) im not sure how it is in red hat but because the modules are different (i think they are even named differently) the 2.4 stuff SHOULDNT be written over. im not 100 percent sure so u may want to check a doc/manual/HOWTO or wait for someone who knows a little more on this to answer your question.
