[SOLVED] Why Did Kernel Upgrade Mess With ALSA Volume Settings?
audio chipset: HDA NVidia ALC888 Analog/Digital
old-kernel: 2.6.37 (custom compile of Debian kernel)
new-kernel: 2.6.38 (custom compile of Debian kernel)
Both kernels have the same configuration
1:Sound was working fine under old-kernel.
2:Rebooted into new-kernel, maximum audio volume was around epsilon.
3:Rebooted into old-kernel, maximum audio volume was now around epsilon.
4:Mild profanity
5:Rebooted, yet again, into new kernel.
6:Used alsamixer to make audio volume OK again.
7:Now I'm happy.
So, what's up with this?
The 2.6.38 changelog did mention some ALSA stuff related to some Nvidia chipsets, but I don't have the background to figure this stuff out. Did the 2.6.38 kernel itself change ALSA settings, or was it gremlins?
