Please let me know the steps to set up the internet service.
So far, I've tried almost all possible ways, as far as I know.
By the way,
My com is a Dell Inspiron 5000e(Notebook) which has 2 slots of PCMCIA and I'm using Kingston PNE-PC2 ethernet card. Internet service is provided by Charter Pipeline (Cable, modem: RCA).
OS is SuSE 8.0 Personal.
What I did was,
1. Install pcmcia-cs-3.2.1 in /usr/src and run
(make config, make all, and make install - I just followed the recommended set up)
2. Network card configures in YaST2
(Ethernet, Device 0, Module - KNE-PC2, and DHCP)
Now, when I tried reboot the computer, it just stopped with these message,
- Setting up network interfaces :
lo -----done
eth0 ---failed
- Starting external PCMCIA startproc :
exit status of parent of /sbin/cardmgr : 1 ----failed
Have you tried 'netconfig'?
It will ask you to enter: IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Server.
Linux will search for possible kernel model for your network card or PCMCIA.
You shouldn't have to recompile your kernel unless you need to compile support for your specific card or other devices. From your error message at bootup, its clearly detecting your card, you just need to configure it using netconfig.
