Recently I've installed CentOS 5 and had trouble the ethernet card won't detect. I have downloaded the driver from the vendor and have to execute the 'make' script. When I executed it, the required file in /lib/modules/kernels/build didn't find the right path.
Finally I found an answer that I have to instal kernel-dev first, I did it and now I can install my ethernet driver.
Sorry for long story ;p...I just want to know what is kernel-dev ? what it used for ?
It contains the kernel header files, which contain declarations of functions, structs and other things used in the kernel source code (or the code for your Ethernet driver).
