Post WoW

I just installed WoW with win 1.2. My first issue rose from not having the gecko correctly installed but thanks to the progress that Ubunutu has made remedying it was no issue whatsoever. The issue including not being able to read the license agreement and not being able to accept the license agreement. The game has installed and patched; there is a new issue though and although to me (an amateur) it looks to be firewall related, the terminology in the line doesn't look like it is. I had attempted to configure firestarted to forward the appropraite ports but the tutorial that I found is either out of date or firestarter is out of date. I used sudo apt-get install firestarter and so I would assume that it is the latest version (whereas I installed wine from synaptic and had to reinstall the most recent version). To get to it, the error reads as such:

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x5d7490 "?" wait timed out in thread 0039, blocked by 0034, retrying (60 sec)

It isn't just some error either because I accidentally left it trying while I was watching a film and its been attempting without connecting for a while now.

Then I attempted to restart wine to see if the issue would resolve itself that way, first time jitters so to speak, and I get this message. I do know how to change the permissions so that I own wine, but in my experience it isn't going to remedy the issue. I think its either a network or Ubuntu bug:

wine: /directory/username/directory/.wine is not owned by you

I managed to forward the necessary ports in firestarter. Now I can't get WoW to run either from a terminal or the Launcher. I expected the launcher wouldn't work from reading, but I can't understand why wine wow or wine wow.exe or similar commands pointing to the directory are producing not found issues. Even further, that I just installed Linux on my PC makes me confused as to why I don't own wine. I'll try to edit permissions but I already know it's going to be some WORDS I CAN'T PUT HERE!@!

sudo chmod *** wine
no such file or directory.
specifying rwx just returned invalid mod...am I remembering incorrectly or did they (hate to use HTML terms) deprecate this argument?
In either case I can't find Wine in /etc /sbin /user or the /home directory so I don't know where it is installed from but I have gotten it to run from the terminal once, and it has a menu in applications.

i installed a bunch of .dll files according to the Ubuntu help with WoW page. It says I require a license to Windows, which I have but I don't know how to activate it through Linux for use with Wine. In addition I copied the Wow.exe shortcut to the windows/system32 file so that I could avoid typing an absolute path (because the terminal insists it can't find it). Now it's giving me a bunch of errors; the exact command was wine Wow.exe and wine Wow.exe -d3d (which produced the same errors.

fixme:actctxarse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" (8.0.50727.762)
err:module:import_dll Library DivxDecoder.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\windows\\system32\\Wow.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\windows\\system32\\Wow.exe" failed, status c0000135

I am thinking it might have to do with configuring the wtf config file, but I can't find that file either using ctrl+h. I haven't successfully run the application though and that might have something to do with it; but I can't well edit the config file or the video settings without entering the application.

Hi there,

Do you have a .wine directory under your home? You should have a directory there, owned by you.
You should not copy Wow.exe to windows\system32, you should run it from WoW directory itself.

From my point of view, I would delete completely /home/youruser/.wine directory and I would follow the steps here http://http://appdb.winehq.org/objec...sion&iId=17421 as WoW should run right out of the box without that much problems

The folder is /home/username/.wine - notice the period. The period makes it a hidden folder. Like Hammett suggested, it's probably best to delete your .wine directory and then follow those instructions for installing WoW.
