World of Warcraft - Patching

I bought World of Warcraft yesterday, assuming it would work pretty well considering that Transgaming gave it 4/5 for playability. I got it installed and running, downloaded the patch, but when I attempt to run the patch (either manually or from the official installer for it [WoW-1.4.0-enUS-downloader.exe]), it runs for a few seconds, then pops up a window reading:
Code:

This application has encountered a critical error:

Success

Program:    C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\BNUpdate.exe
Function:    CreateProgressDialog failed

Press OK to terminate the application

When I run it from the command line, I see this in the terminal:
Code:

You need to install the Mozilla ActiveX control to be able to view webpages in this application
0004:: Bad stuff: client ignore setting select events for 0x900aec30 to 1
0004:: Bad stuff: client ignore setting select events for 0x900aec30 to 1

I installed the Mozilla ActiveX control in Cedega, 'mozctlinstaller-1.0-1,' I think it was, and still no avail; I am about to install the ActiveX control for Firefox and see if that fixes the problem, but I doubt if it will.

Have any of you experienced this, or do any of you know how to fix it?

Edit: The ActiveX for Firefox failed, too!
Edit: I read somewhere that Wine can do the patch flawlessly. I will emerge it and give this a shot.
Edit: Wine 20050111 cannot run the patch on my box.

The last version of wine in the portage 20050419 works perfectly for me although i have not installed any updates yet ! Give tit a try ! It also fixes some of the opengl issues related with the minimap!

Good Luck
