I'm back in the Linux scene with Kubuntu 7.10, and I've ran into an issue with the latest version of wine. Even running it in OpenGL mode, my World of Warcraft installation has taken a huge dump on my computer screen. It runs, but it looks horrible. Now, here is what it looked like on my older computer with wine 0.9.25.
The game runs, but as said earlier, it freezes when I try to edit the options via the in-game menus. The spell icons look all screwed up and sometimes when it loads a new area all my fonts disappear. I even tried installing the evaluation copy of crossover office to see if that helped and it didn't(Crossover Office is just a fancy frontend for wine btw). I'm running Fedora 8 with wine version 0.9.49. Help please.
P.S. I have turned off pixel shaders of all kinds, and turned the graphics down to the way they should be, and this issue is still present.

I just uninstalled yum's version of wine, and downloaded the source code for 0.9.51. I compiled it, installing things like gcc that it said were missing before the make and make install. Same issues. Help please?
After a system reinstall because of some other issues and running the game in DirectX mode, it works just fine. A few things here and there like distant textures appearing white for a second before loading, but it's all tolerable.
Have you tried the OpenGL registry edit? It worked wonder's for me but I use an NVidia card. Here it is in case you want to try it
Quote:
OpenGL Registry Edit
A common performance tweak for wine and opengl games is a registry edit. While your results may vary, many users report up to a 100% increase in framerate with no loss of stability. To make this change, do the following:
1. Open regedit (regedit)
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\
3. Right click on the wine folder and select [NEW] then [KEY].
4. Replace the text New Key #1 with OpenGL (case sensitive).
5. Right click in the right panel and select [NEW] then [String Value].
6. Replace the text New Value #1 with DisabledExtensions (case sensitive).
7. Now right click on DisabledExtensions and select Modify
8. A dialog box should appear. In the value field type "GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object" (Without Quotes)
Also you can add the following to the config.wtf so it will always run with OpenGL instead of DIrectX:
Code:
SET gxApi "opengl"
