Wings3D - any good?

Hi,

Okay, so, I've been struggling to get Blender running, but it crashes on a segfault. So, I'm giving up on Blender...too bad.
I searched for a 3d modeler on the web and found Wings 3D, I had it installed way back, when I did'nt know what Linux was. Now, I'd like to pick that up again.

Simple question : what's your view on Wings 3D? I'm looking for a modeler that can export in a format that can be read elsewhere (Java programs I'm busy with). So, I'd model something, and import that model into the Java program I'm making.

Just some flakes floating around, here...

Thanks

Thor

wings 3d is fine if you are running that windows program on Windows XP

what version of blender
there was a MAJOR change in it from 2.49b to the 2.5 and now the 2.6
it is VERY VERY VERY different than all the tutorials wrote for the old 2.4

the VERY new blender 2.6.2 might not run on some systems
and the slightly older Blender 2.6.1 came with it's own version of Python 3.2

so unless you have that NEW python you will have some problems with blender 2.6

but if you want to use wings on Arch you might want to grab
wings-1.4.1.tar.bz2 - it is just over one year old

Git was last updated 2 years ago
CVS was last updated ? about 4 years ago
SVN was last updated 2 years ago

Thanks JohnVV, I did'nt know blender 2.6.1 had its own python...well worth a looksee...
As I understand, my box may need an overhaul. Too many this-and-that changed over time, maybe this is just one of those symptoms...
