Wine/Half-Life install problem

When trying to install Half-Life using Wine (wine /mnt/cdrom/SETUP.EXE), I get an error message saying that "Setup is unable to find a hard disk location to store temporary files."

I know it has to do with how my temp space for Wine is configured, but as yet I have not been able to solve the problem.

Here's the relevant portion of my Wine config:

Quote:
[Drive A]
"Path" = "/mnt/floppy"
"Type" = "floppy"
"Label" = "Floppy"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

[Drive C]
"Path" = "/home/user/.wine/c"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "c"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

[Drive E]
"Type" = "cdrom"
"Path" = "/mnt/cdrom"
"Label" = "CD-ROM"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

;;[Drive Y]
;;"Type" = "${CXOFFICE_DRIVE_TYPE_HACK}"
;;"Path" = "${HOME}"
;;"Label" = "Home"
;;"Filesystem" = "win95"
;;"Codepage" = "0"

;;[Drive Z]
;;"Type" = "${CXOFFICE_DRIVE_TYPE_HACK}"
;;"Path" = "/"
;;"Label" = "Root"
;;"Filesystem" = "win95"
;;"Codepage" = "0"

[wine]
"Windows" = "c:\\Windows"
"System" = "c:\\Windows\\system"
"Temp" = "c:\\Windows\\Temp"
"Path" = "c:\\Windows;c:\\Windows\\system;y:\\"
;;"Profile" = "c:\\Windows\\Profiles\\Administrator"
"GraphicsDriver" = "x11drv"
; Wine doesn't pass directory symlinks to Windows programs by default.
; Enabling this may crash some programs (typically installers) that do
; recursive lookups of a whole directory tree in case of a symlink
; pointing back to itself.
;;"ShowDirSymlinks" = "1"
;;"ShowDotFiles" = "1"
"ShellLinker" = "wineshelllink"
"LinkProcessor" = "winemenubuilder.exe"
; Use case sensitive path here, Wine is not the only place where this value
; is used
"IconsDir" = "c:\\Windows\\Icons"
; name of the freetype library
"FreeTypeLib" = "libcxfreetype.so"

[Restart]
"Boot" = "c:\\Windows\\System\\reboot.exe"
Any help is appreciated

here's my tmp setup in .wine/config file:

[Drive X]
"Path" = "/tmp"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "Tmp Drive"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

...and...

"Temp" = "X:\\"
"Path" = "C:\\Windows;C:\\Windows\\System;X:\\;Y:\\"

hope it helps!

Do you have enough swap space? Or enough space in the /tmp dir?

This apparently is a problem with newer versions of wine, I just went through the process of getting HL up and running: here is what I ended up doing:

1) Download Current Wine build - compile install - didn't work at all
2) Unintall #1, download RPM of wine - works, but gives me that stupid 'not enough space' error
3) Give up, bought a 3 month subscription to WineX and I am totally happy. They apparently have put lots of work into making games like this work. I have been playing HL (Natural Selection) for the last couple of hours and it has been great fun.

If you use linux lots, or plan to play lots of games under linux, stop fighting with traditional wine, and just use WineX, it really is worth the 5 dollars a month.

-Chris

ps. apparently older versions of wine did not get the out of temp space error, you might try downloading a 6 mo. old build and seeing if that works for ya, good luck
