wine and steam

I can get the steam login to come up but everytime I try to connect it says I'm not connected or steam is down. Steam isn't down and my connection works outside of wine. How can I fix this? I am on cable and it's dhcp.

The Transgaming people are working on Steam for WineX, but that's all I know. As for the CVS, I don't know if anyone is working on Steam compatibility.

I can get the steam dialog to come up fine, I just can't get it to use my internet connection. It always says I'm disconnected when I'm not.

I had this same problem. There's a file or program or dll or SOMETHING included with the Internet Explorer 6 installation that will help WINE conenct to Steam's servers.

The strange thing is, I used WineX to install steam and I have steam installed to a WineX directory (~/.transgaming/), but Winex won't run Steam correctly so I have to run Steam with normal Wine to get it to function.

- Also, I used Wine 20031212 and not the newer 2004 version.

A tutorial I found very helpful, but not a solve-all, is located here .

Wow. What. The. Crap.

I'm installing Counter-Strike from Steam, and apparantly the CS files are going to the Wine area and not the WineX area where Steam was installed.

I am totally confused, but I think Steam is more so! :-D

you dont need to install dcom ie or wathever

winex cvs has now cs 1.6 working great ! ( i have 99 fps)

Well, my Steam would never connect to Steam servers until I installed IE6.

...and I've yet to get CS, HL, or any of the other games or mods to work with Steam - it freezes at the "Automatically launch when game is updated" screen that appears when I try to launch a game.

Woo. :(

As samhob noted about the cvs version of winex (winex 3.3) now apprently fully supports steam and counterstrike.

Check the below link.

im going to get it setup when i get back from school tonite :]

I had cs working with wine (not winex) before but there were still some performance problems, hopefully the new winex will fix this.
