Wine Alsa devices Permission Denied

I made my first attempt at getting wine to run Starcraft. It seems to work well except no sound. As I scanned the wine config file, I noticed that the oss sound was selected instead of Alsa, which I use. So I commented the OSS line and uncommented the ALSA line.

I still have no sound, but I also get error messages now saying I don't have permission to access my sound card.

My first instinct is to chmod 777 the device, but I'm not sure that is the best idea.

My second idea is to try and run starcraft as root and see if i get those same problems.

I'm going to try the second option first.

Does anybody have other ideas on what I should do?
