Originally posted by LavaDevil94 winex doesnt work a bit for me, and yes, i did subscribe. waste of 30$ IMHO. wine is the only thing that works and of course its not perfect.
It doesn't work with the games listed as 4 or 5 on Transgaming's website??? I've actually had success with stuff that was listed at 0 (and also problems with stuff listed as a 4, as well). What distro are you using??? Is your OpenGL implementation working correctly???
Currently WineX from Transgaming is the best thing around to run Windoze games in Linux. No emulators come close. If it's that much of an issue, you should duel boot with Win98 (yech!!! It makes me feel dirty just saying it). For me, when I ran Mandrake 8.2, Jedi Outcast actually ran better and faster in Linux than in native Windoze... Now in SuSE 8.2 I have some problems, but they are sporatic (Jedi Outcast won't save games... but levels will save. Go figure.).
I am also bussy now backing up some files (230GIG :S)
when thats done i go install linux again and go try out thate wineX i hade it before only i just couln't get it to work properly
i go try again and keep trying till it works because i realy wanne get rid of BLEEP!!

yeah, opengl works fine and i have mandrake 8.2. not even the winex binary itself works. ive tried camstudio (utility), warcraft 3, starcraft, and some other games off the internet like acid arena turbo, little fighter 2, and codered: battle for earth.

I used Mandrake 8.2 and had no problems using WineX.
I have found that SuSE 8.2 is the best for gaming using Wine/WineX. All the games that are choppy under Redhat and Mandrake run like silk under Suse. You may want to get the latest CVS of wineX from Transgaming, or you could d/l limewire and search for the commercial version of WineX. I would email it to you , but hey that illegal. Sorry....

JaseP, i have a radeon 9000. im gonna update my drivers from 2.5.1 to 3.2.8 if they work. right now im pretty concerned with a bug in the 2.5.1 drivers that makes text mode look like gibberish.
Just thought I should let you know. WineX is still working on ATI support. You may (more likely will) run into problems with running Windows games under WineX with your ATI card. Then again, you may not. Some the the symptoms will be bad refresh rates, choppy graphics, system lockups, and radom program exits.
Some people I know don't get these with their ATI cards, but this is just FYI. You may want to get an NVIDIA card on your next upgrade if you want to game under Linux.
