Welcome to LQ. The message you posted is telling you that you don't have a GCC compiler installed. You will need to install one via your software manager.

Mandriva should have a graphical package manager program that lets you select (point-and-click) the compilation tools and install them with a few mouse clicks. Not sure what it's name is, but it should be in the menu, possibly under system or administration tools.

There should be urpm config file where mirrors are listed. Try one of them and search for gcc package.

I use Mandriva 2007 Spring, and not that it is important, but it's URPMI. I believe the installation disc does have the gcc files.

If you haven't already set up the mirriors, go here: http://mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/
very simple to follow. Select your distro and architecture (i586 or x64_64).
In the last step, copy&paste the commands in the konsole (under root). Once done, you should be able to just type in "urpmi gcc".
It should then ask for the mandriva disc and you can insert it and install it.

hope that works.
