Question ut2004 free standalone dedicated server problems

I recently downloaded the free dedicated server for unreal tournament 2004. I unzipped it and followed what was said in the readme by trying to do ./ucc-bin .

bash-2.05b# ./ucc-bin
bash: ./ucc-bin: Permission denied

Then i modified the file ucc-bin so i could exec it as root.

bash-2.05b# ./ucc-bin
=======================================
ucc.exe: UnrealOS execution environment
Copyright 2001 Epic Games Inc
=======================================

Use "ucc help" for help

At this point i dont really know how to start/make a server. I have already registered for a cd key for my server and i cant find much documentation about this. I am running slackware 10.

Thanks in advance.

Same Problem here.. Can anyone help out with this? I'm running it on a linux server as well, and have placed the UT2004 directory in the /var/www/html folder i.e. /var/www/html/UT2004

Code:
[root@gateway UT2004]# cd System
[root@gateway System]# ./ucc-bin
=======================================
ucc.exe: UnrealOS execution environment
Copyright 2001 Epic Games Inc
=======================================

Use "ucc help" for help
[root@gateway System]#
I've tried to connect to the server by opening UT2004 and trying to connect to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.1/UT2004 by going to "Open IP" and It won't connect, so I've searched the net trying to find out what to do next, and everything i've found is aimed for the more expert linux users. I've tried to use the command ucc help it is unrecognized.

I'm running this on Clarkconnect Home Edition. www.clarkconnect.org

Any help for us would be appreciated.

Essentially you're both running the ucc-bin without any arguments

what you need to do is run it with the server argument (so it launches a server)

./ucc-bin server

You can add extra arguments to this for specific gametypes / maps / server options

./ucc-bin server CTF-Citadel?Game=XGame.XCTFGame

Be careful if the directory you're running from is visible to the public internet, the configuration files and their passwords are stored in plain text.

Bear in mind that the UT2004 server is NOT a web application. So its best to install it somwhere completely seperate from your web root imho

Also, create a new user to run the game server with limited privelages, do not run as root.

RE: UT2004 Server

Thanks Thin for your reply.

I apologize for not posting back, but I got to looking at the date on this thread and didn't figure anyone would respond anyways, but here is what I got:

Quote:
what you need to do is run it with the server argument (so it launches a server)
I have created several files and placed them in /usr/sbin such as myvctf.sh, myctf.sh, mytdm.sh .. and so on .... with this in the scripts:

Code:
#!/bin/sh

cd /usr/local/games/ut/System

nohup ./ucc-bin server \
VCTF-BloodGulch\
?game=XGame.xVehicleCTFGame\
?AdminName=mikesg\
?AdminPassword=xxxxxxxxxxxx\
?AutoAdjust=1\
ini=ut2004.ini -nohomedir &
Which this code starts the server and the Web Admin server all in one shot (providing you have Web Admin set to True in the ut2004.ini file.)

After that I realized that I did not enable the Webserver end of the program, so I had to enable that in /System/UT2004.ini of the game files.

After reading up on some forums, someone pointed me to this where I ended up basically doing exactly the same thing:

http://www.charlestonsw.com/ut2004/l...atedserver.htm

And that is the step by step of the how to that I basically pieced together using different forums and websites. I wish I had had this link from the beginning, it would have saved a lot of headaches.

Thanks again for your response, and I hope what I have added here helps others find what they are looking for.
