UT2004 DVD version

Well I manage to install ut2004 on mandrake9.2 amd64.

While playing it I noticed there was no disc activity from the dvdrom drive so I then played the game without the dvd in the drive and it worked so I'm guessing ut2004 doesn't need the disc to play.

Am I correct in this asumption?

probably yes, in fact nearly all natively ported linux games dont need the cd/dvd in the drive, like RTCW, or UT.

LavaDevil94 is correct in that most ported Linux games don't require the CD in the drive. In fact, I can think of none.

Developers don't see Linux users as a threat to piracy. I guess we are too happy to receive a Linux port that they know they'll get a sale out of us...

Besides, most Linux native games use a CD code...

sure

I changed my dvdrom fstab setting so it wasn't using supermount you can do this with mandrake control center after install you can change it back this seems to require a restart

if you copy the install script from the dvd into your home directory and run it from there
it will mount the dvdrom itself it gets stuck after copying only a few files but if you type "export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom" before running the install script it will then install happily.

It may work with supermount if you type "export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom" before hand but I didn't do it like that so I wouldn't know.

Is that any help?

How did you do it?

Did you change how your DVD Drive was mounted or did you just stick with supermount and use the export command?
