UT2004 Crashes with no errors.

I recently successfully installed Unreal Tournament 2004 on Linux (great - don't need windows anymore!). However, periodically, the game crashes, returning me to my desktop. No error messages are given (when running both in the terminal and not in the terminal), and there is no trace of the game running on my system once it has crashed. It is nice that it crashes so cleanly, and does not require a reboot, but it is rather frustrating. The time in which the game crashes after running it is totally random - could be 5 minutes, could be 25. I also could not find a UT2004.log file in the System folder.

I searched around on here before posting to see if anyone had the same problem. I think a few may have, but the answers given did not really help.

Hopefully, the following system information will be useful:
  • Motherboard: DFI Infinity NF4
  • Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 1600
  • Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800
  • uname -r returns: 2.6.17-2-486
  • ATI Drivers are the latest version, as I tried updating to resolve the problem.

The Xorg.0.log has nothing too suspicious looking in it and if anyone needs more info, I will happily supply it.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Did you install all of the patches? What patch level are you at?

As of yet, I have installed none of the patches. I am at the patch level that the game is at when first installed. I will try patching to the latest version, and see what happens.

Hi, exactly the same problem here... No patches, latest ATI drivers (x1950xtx). But usually it doesn't crash for a second time until after a long play time. The first crash comes almost immediately though. Nothing suspicious in logs, nothing but the crash.

I noticed you said 'No patches'.

I'd suggest applying all patches and then post back if the problem persists.

I totally agree. Apply all patches up to the latest one, and then try playing. It works absolutely flawlessly for me now. Thanks deoren for the help here. It is greatly appreciated.
