UT2004 adding new maps.

I have been having a strange problem with UT2004 and I've devoted hours to searching for a fix and to troubleshooting it myself, but I've had little luck.

I originally had a DVD copy of UT2004. Due to circumnstances beyond my control I no longer have broadband, so I've been trucking files back to my desktop at home after downloading them to my laptop at work.

UT2004 ran beutifully. Someone gave me a machine with Fedora Core 2 on it, some sound issues that were a pain but fixable, no big deal. Finally I bought SuSE 9.2 Pro, no more sound issues what so ever. I decided it was time to patch and update, trucked the files home on my laptop. Any time I added ANY bonus pack I got the "EOF 0+4/0" error. All patches worked fine, even the latest patch which prefers the Editors Choice bonus pack already be there. The patch worked only the bonus maps would not. I have the very latest nVidia drivers on a GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB DDR.

I decided to try an expensive fix. I questioned my DVDs quality due to issues with the installer crashing that I had to work around (copied disk to HDD, set SETUP_CDROM=/HDD/Path). I went out and bought the UT2004 Editors Choice Edition DVD (two licenses isn't a bad thing anyways). It works with editors choice content! I placed the latest patch, the patch is fine. So I now have editors choice content. So, I try to install the classic maps bonus pack and the community bonus packs. Same damn issue.

I've tried bonus packs one by one, they all cause the same problems. I've tried putting a copy of a working install in another directory, putting the packs in place, then copying the original working directory over the other one with the new maps in place, no dice.

If anyone can help me with some suggestions I would apprechiate it. I can give back to the community to. I have the original non-working DVD edition with patches and only the ECE Bonus pack in one directory, and the ECE DVD edition working with patches in place in a directory next to it. If anyone would like me to look at any particular files or run any compare commands let me know, I would be happy to paste the results somewhere so people with simular issues with the original DVD can possibly find a fix. It can't be more than a few files being different.

To answer a few questions I know I'll get:

I completely deleted or renamed directories before installing the new DVD edition.

I keep a copy of a working UT2004 directory in ~ at all times incase I screw up the one under /usr/local/games, this backup saves a lot of time.

Yes, I have completely deleted ~/.ut2004, and have done so repeatedly to test it.

I have a P4 1.7 Ghz with 256 MB of 800Mhz RDRAM (more should come via UPS today or so), 180 GB Western Digital on a PCI card that will support that big of a drive. Some cheap ass creative labs sound card that came with the Dell I'm using. I would have to go back and look to get specifics on that one, and I doubt it's the issue.

I've had lots of experience with UT99, I used to add maps skins and models to that all the time, as well as edit the unrealtournament.ini file constantly as the skins/models didn't necessarily work when just dumped into place.

I used to use UT2003 on a previous system quite regularly, no problems to speak of, didn't mod that one near as much but I did add maps on occasion.

I have had all versions of UT working on both Linux and Windows with the exception of 2004, I never bothered putting that one on Windows. I haven't maintained a Windows system of my own since 2000 or 2001.

I will check back on this post throughout the day. I wont be able to actually look at my system until tonight when I am at home. I will be happy to email or post any config files and try any commands suggested.

I was reading about UT2004, with the bonus packs and patches, you need to install the bonus pack first then apply the patch for it to work properly

Tried it,

Tried it first and last. I was given a hint by someone on another board, if it works I will share.

I figured it out, (some time ago actualy)

The fix was easy. I was being a lazy bastard extracting the maps. I was opening up Konqueror, clicking on the zip file, then drag-dropping the folders over the exsisting ones. For some reason extracting them this way caused the eof error. When I dropped to a command line and extracted them, they worked fine.
