Hi there! I'd installed UT2003 on my system (specs to follow).
Periodically, the main display becomes corrupt and the landscape turned into a strange effect. However, the HUD and active weapon still look normal. If I forfeit the game and re-start it, it'll work for a period of time before it does the same thing again.
Is there a known bug?
h/w specs:
SuSE Linux 9 Pro
Abit NF7 mobo
1GB RAM (PC333)
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
SB Audigy sound
The screen, when it goes berzerk, looks like an inverted cone effect, centering around the target marker at the center of the screen.
Also, I decided to put Quake3 through the paces. While it took a lot longer for anything to happen, on one occasion a similar effect happened, with the target marker being the center of the effect. Except, in q3, it did not encompass the whole screen, but rather a line extending across the screen that had a similar cone look.
I dunno if it's the OpenGL implementation or the ATi card itself being bad. How can I test the OpenGL implementation?

Rep:
it might be the ati drivers, which is why im getting an nvidia card. sorry i dont have any real suggestions, but maybe it has something to do with your resolution and fglrxconfig.
I'd tried multiple resolutions, from 800x600 up to 1600x1200.
Even at 1024x768, framerates never got above 50FPS, which is eyebrow-raising...
I'd gone from nvidia to ATi because of the cost of the 9800 Pro...
I'm going to put my Nvidia 4600 board back in and if the problems go away... (of course, I had the nvidia board with SuSE 8.2; I'd moved to 9.0 as well...)
Heck, it might fix the vmware problem as well... I hope!
