hello
i recently bought unreal tournament 2004. it works great but in the options i can't change the resolution of the screen. it is 800*600 by default and i can't change it...
any idea?
thanks

i just can't change it, because there is no other option in the menu!
in the menu, there is only 800*600 and when i click on the arrow next to it, it keeps displaying 800*600 in the menu...
is it the same thing in yours?
What desktop resolution do you use? Typically with linux games you cannot set a resolution higher than your current desktop resolution. You might also want to double check that you have your monitor's horizantal and vertical refresh set correctly as that can play small tricks if set wrong.
I also assume your using the standard vga output from the card. If not, using the DVI or the s-video port tend to have some bugs yet in linux and are usually restricted in the max res they can produce.
It may also be worth while to double check and make sure you have all the patches aswell.

for the card, i don't know whether i use vga output or something else.
but i reinstalled the game, the patch and it is still the same thing, i can choose only 800*600 in the menu...

i found this on the web :
"After my system was setup and UT2004 installed, I ran into a little problem. When I would go into the settings menu for UT2004 I would only see one resolution; 800X600. After searching and posting on the Atari community forums I found out about a little command. If you are ever in need of a quick resolution switch just type 'setres wxhxd'. An example would be 'setres 1024x768x24'. The 1024 would be width, 768 would be height, and 24 would be the color. If you are running windows this command will work as long as your hardware supports the entered values. Although if you are running Linux make sure that your desktop is at the destination settings already, or UT2004 will crash. There are other fixes, but this is the only one that I tried, and it worked."
i'd like to try that, but i just can't find the setres command! i searched on the web but didn't find anything...
do you know about this?
Originally posted by MNKyDeth It's probobly just a matter of going into the game and hitting the ~ key to bring down the console then typing setres (parameters).
yes, that's it!
thanks.
and in the previous message, he speaks of other fixes...do you know about them?
thank you
In all honesty I never ran into the problem you have with the different resolutions not being displayed. So I am not completely sure why that is happening.
If you were refering to my previous post of things to check like making sure the refresh rate for the monitor is set correctly all you have to do is open /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/xorg.conf depending wich one you use and make sure you have something like this in there.
HorizSync 30-95
VertRefresh 50-160
Needs to have the proper values for your specific monitor though, so check the specifications of your monitor for the proper refresh rate settings. Make sure it this line looks like this.
Load "glx"
And not like this.
#Load "glx"
And where it says this
Driver "nv"
Make sure it says this instead if the nvidia drivers are installed.
Driver "nvidia"
Those are the first things I would check if the game is patched and such.
If you are getting lackluster performance put this line under the Driver "nvidia" line.
Option "NvAGP" "3"
That should turn on the agp slot technically if it isn't already. It's a safe setting to set as it will default to the kernel AGP setting before the nvidia driver AGP. Another thing to try for some extra performance would be to add this line after the Driver "nvidia" line or after the Option "NvAGP" "3" line.
Option "RenderAccel" "on"
It's technically not fully tested but if it works it might give some extra frames per second. It's a setting I like to mess with.
If you try all of this and double check it all and it is set correctly I am afraid I am not sure why it is not displaying other resolutions. If there is anything else specific you want to know, just ask.
