unreal tournament 2004 noobie question
i managed to install ut2k4 on my system, mandrake 10 on a p4 3.06 radeon 9700 pro etc.
i run it and the splash starts up and i get this Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual History: Exiting due to error and i dunno what that means. i installed teh drivers for my video card but im not sure if i did it correctly. when i run the glrxgears thing i get like 1000 fps as opposed to the 250ish i was getting with the other drivers so i think they work........... any help is appreciated |
under graphical server it says ati radeon fglrx as the card, the correct monitor, 1280x1024 24bpp if that makes any difference
some alternate x servers are radeon, radeon fbdev and 8500........ |
Is it possibly because its trying to run DRI instead of the gl driver for the ati card.
Open up XF86Config and look for a line like this (should be near the top of the file). Load "dri" and comment it out so it looks like this. # Load "dri" I dont have dri loaded on my computer with a radeon installed, neither do i have it for the geforce cards. |
hmmmmmmmmm i did that and got more or less the same message. (the splash screen did stick around for a while longer though)
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". WARNING: ALC_EXT_capture is subject to change! should i uncomment load dri? btw, i tried tuxraver and got an awful fps.......... |
run glxinfo and see if you have 3D accel, if don't reinstall fglrx drivers or look to some howtos in this forum.

Sigh.... Radeons use DRI! i dunno what you guys are talking about, but that dri is what fglrx is based on
try this: in console (fglrxconfig) then restart then in console (fglrxinfo) if it sais stuff about ati technologies, then its all good, if it sais mesa, then something else is wrong. what card do you have? you should be getting 3000-5000fps in glxgears with anything recent |
oh............ ive got a 9700 pro. ill try that......... tho if i remember i did see a lot of stuff about mesa
|
yeah... you should get over 4000fps in glxgears.... (i get 4600fps with my 9800pro) running fglrxconfig will make a xf86config file that will most likley suit your hardware. im not too familiar with the newer versions of mandrake..... also be sure that your kernel-sources are installed at time of driver installation. or it will not work
|
ok....... finally got the 3d accel working. tuxracer kicks ass. ut2004 runs very nicely; much faster than on windoze it seems. it did crash in the menu the 1st time but it seems to be ok. however, my screen refresh rate seems to be too slow or the fps is too high or something. nothing major, but its kinda too fast for the refresh rate. i believe i set it for the specs in the manual, 30-70 hsync and 50-160 vsync and as default its at 75hz (?)
|
furthermore, it crashes when i try change the bot count. im one of those ppl who finds wallowing around knee high in guts with 25 bots on a 2 player map to be highly amusing
|
ok nm........... it WAS running, i rebooted and today i get
Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual its a shame radeons SUCK on linux and tuxracer is back to getting about 5 fps. apparently the 3d accel reset after rebooting? do i have to go through all that again? |
Try rebooting only X server. I remember when having my Radeon 9500 i had to reboot X server everytime, cause first X boot was always with MESA. After X reboot, i had 3D accel.
|
werid... i never had that happen to me... by the way, what drivers were you using? 3.2.8? or something else? because i get shatty fps with the 3.7.6 drivers.
|
I used to have 3.7.0 or 3.2.8.
3.7.6 drivers are a complete shit |
