Two Worlds (not installing)

I was installing Two Worlds today and when the installation progress box came up it gave me this (you need to install Ageia PhysX v2.7) do you want continue and install it or cancel the installation. well I click continue and then a new progress box came up and it goes all the way through (and diapers) and then nothing. I also went into the CD and found the file and installed it straight but same thing happened.

anyone know what I need to do?

What is the physx file you found and what did you do with it?

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item=274&num=1

I think you may need to install a particular driver for your video card. However other than the SDK I don't know if that is available:

this is the only file I found on the Cd (and I also believe that it is the same file that it used automatically when I clicked continue) PhysX_7.05.06_SystemSoftware

Is that a file or a directory? Is this a native Linux installation?

PhysX_7.05.06_SystemSoftware is a file that is on the Two Worlds CD now there is a folder called PhysX which the file PhysX_7.05.06_SystemSoftware is in however like I said when I try to install it the progress bar runs from start to end but that's it I open the file the (first progress bar opens up) and it goes all the way from start to finish pretty fast and then that's it nothing else.

Now the game is not native to Linux, it is a windows game I am using wine (sorry that I did not mention that earlier)

Maybe it installed just fine and you just do not know how to use/start it? (no offense!)
If you saw no errors this could be the case.

Wine usually installs its software inside the directory ~/.wine
There should be a directory "drive_c" and inside that a directory "programs" - just like in windows.
Look there if your program.exe is present.
If it is - start it with:
wine ~/.wine/_the_path_to_the_exe_file
in a terminal

Yes well I keep leaving things off lol (sorry). All tho Linux itself did not lock up the two worlds folder locked up(actuality I think it is wine that locked up) and if I had wine set full screen (the blue screen) I could not get out of it without turning of the pc (not the switch mind you) but none the less I had to reboot. clt+alt+delete only thing that would work. Also I have tried it several times and each time it keep asking me for the file so It has definitely not installed.

one more thing the first progress box should up (I would say it is the progress box that tells you it is loading up into temp or something to that nature) Because it never asked me and questions or said that it was install just a progress box. and in my experience there are usually at least two progress boxes the first showing that it is loading up, and the second installing.

I suggest:
- open a terminal and start the installation from there
wine /path/to/setup.exe

This way you can see in the terminal what actually happens - and should something hang, just close the terminal and it will take all processes started from there with it.

What is the distribution you are using?
What is the wine version? - They recently released 1.0 and some minor versions after that.
Did you configure it? (type: "winecfg" in a terminal)
Did you check the wine website on hints on that particular game?

Descriptions on what the install process looks like - what kind of windows it draws etc... are not very helpful.
The lines of output in the terminal are.

Well I now see what it is that is causing the problem (well at least I think I do) lol anyway I am writing what I did down here and what it said in case someone knows what I need to do faster then I can find out... on my own.. I will be looking around but if one of you know and can tell me the answer Ill be thankful..

fixme:reg:GetNativeSystemInfo (0x331a8c) using GetSystemInfo()
A dilog box shows up and gives me this..
Following drivers should be installed prior to installing Two Worlds:

Agei PhysX v2.7 Drivers

Press Ok to install the reueired files
or CANCEL to abort the installation.

I press OK.....

winecfg

Audio: select the driver you want - alsa should be a safe choice
also play with what wine says what windows version it is

but the last failure is caused by the installer (msi) failing to load something
Quote:
err:msi:ACTION_CallDllFunction failed to load dll L"C:\\windows\\temp\\msi7ec7.tmp"
C:\\windows obviously does not exist - but maybe the error goes away after you fixed the sound

But _that_ is really about all I can say about that...

Good luck!

Smile also installing Two Worlds

Hello. I am new here, but i wanted to register and post a reply about this, since right now I am also installing Two Worlds via WINE.

I know that this is probly a stale thread, but i thought i'd try to breathe new life into it at least once!

My system is as follows:

SAGER laptop / desktop replacement system
nVidia GeForce 7950GTX (512MB dedicated)
Intel Core2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz)
4 GB DDR2 Mushkin RAM
7200RPM 160GB Seagate hard drive
1920x1200 17" LCD screen
Bluetooth
Intel 4965 a/g/n wifi device

OS is Ubuntu 8.04
Running WINE 1.1.3

running setup.exe from cdrom0 at the Terminal, i am surprised to find the PhysX wanting to be installed. Like the last person that has done this, I installed, but unlike, it installed without any hitch. It then went to install the actual game. So far no hitches. It's slow to install, but there again, it's 8GB worth of installation off one DVD.

I'll post the output of the terminal once it has installed (crosses fingers)

As you can see, there's a few .dlls missing from the default setup that I am running. I'm going to change a few settings and see what i can find to help settle these rogue dlls.

run #2

So i searched down the two dlls that were missing, and installed them into the windows32 folder, as usual. ran the program again and it looked to me that it wanted to run, aleit a lower resolution that native (fine, until i cna get it reset). but then as it looked as if it were about to take off, it closed out with an error window popping up saying that this game cannot be ran in my area (HUH??!?!?!)

As soon as i got out of that screen, i looked thru the terminal and this is what i found:

err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x1b6f834,0x00000000), stub!

err:d3d:getColorBits Unsupported format: WINED3DFMT_A16B16G16R16F

Kind of interesting, although it's still kind of garbbly to me (still trying to learn how to decipher these errors)

I will look and see what I can find for a solutiona nd keep you all posted if i do find one!

well, i got the patcher to run finally, after the dll issue, and a little tweaking to the registry. but after it patches, it changes resolution of the screen (normal), but then drops back to desktop with a window stating that my video card is not supported for the game. well, i have tried with three different video cards now (my main machine with it's 9600Gt and 7800GT and my laptop with the 7950GTX) but to no avail. I think this game is just not going to run on Linux. I think WINE's not seeing the video cards like windows, so it states that it is not supported.
