trouble installing game from a .rpm file
I'm a newbie, trying to lose the ball-and-chain of "Windows" I got a book (tutorial)
as a step-by-step to learn Linux. It calls to install a game from a website that is in .rpm form. I followed the instructions exactly and when i try to open the .rpm file, i get an error message: Could not open package. The file/home............. Could not be read. Make sure that you have the proper permission on it. I right click on the file to set the permission (as I am the only user of this computer) and it is "ALL" checked, for owner, group, and others. It does this with all .rpm files, I looked in the book, but theres no reference to this problem, let alone a solution, or any contact info of the publisher, which brings me to here. I am new to Linux, but, not a novice to operating systems, except programing, So, if anyone could help me with this problem and tell me what I did wrong, I would appreciate it, ty. |
Hi!
Welcome to LinuxQuestions.org. You don't actually unpack a .rpm file, you install it. Take a look into this link to learn how to install programs in Linux, through source or rpm's: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=45094 Good luck! |
