Steam over wine?

You trying to run CS over wine? You might be SOL. HL/CS is pretty Directx intensive for sound and video. I don't believe anyone has spent any time trying to get something going to translate Directx commands through wine (Not a very trivial matter, as one of my programmer friends has put it 'HELLA complicated'). Wine better supports the M$ Office applications.

Try installing as root

That's pretty neat, looks like wine has come a long way since I last took a look at it.

You should try installing it as the root user. It looks like your screenshot is showing that you can't access the True Type fonts directory of you X11 server.

Another thing to try is to see if you can specify WHERE your True Type folder is, under the X11 tree. I looked at mine, and it seems that the directory is TTF, not TT, as your screenshot shows. It might be in a wine configuration file somewhere.

i have an idea

well the 27% error is somthing alot of people seem to have..

cvswinex seems to be better at running steam, but wine can do it with a bit of work

take a look at http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/...p?articleid=32

goto your fake windows drive ( ls -a in your home directory for the wine dir, then fake c drive, program files, steam)
and delete ClientRegistry.blob
and then restart steam
that should help
fyi you need openGL 3d rendering X unless your pc is fast enough to use software rendering (although i dont recommend this)

Transgaming has a great linux solution to games; I run steam, as well as all the games (HL, CS, CS:CZ) without any performance hit whatsoever. The only problem is that it currently doesnt support the HL2 engine (source), so my beta of CS Source doesnt work.
