Can you use MAC software in linux???

Cause i wanna play starcraft, their is a Starcraft version in MAC

any ways to play that MAC version in Linux?

i recently spent a day in san francisco and happened to stop into the Mac store there to ask pretty much the same questions.

the software written for Mac OS 10.x (specifically i was asking about 10.3) will not run in linux even tho Mac OS 10 is based on darwin since it has been modified to work specifically for mac hardware. the same goes for their GUI, aqua, taht wont' run on PC hardware, only on a mac, tho it is possible to run KDE or Gnome on OS10.

Well, you can run the Windows version of Starcraft using Wine.

Didn't the SC CD comes with the Windows/Mac version of the game? In any case about this Mac questions, what a bout Linux-PPC, could that run Mac apps?

is wine for non-x86's, so Linux-PPC could run windows apps, but i dunno about Mac, it might need an emu.

There is currently no PPC emulation for x86 machines that I am aware of. So you cannot run MAC software on a Linux machine. If you had access to the source code, it would not be hard to PORT it, maybe a couple of weeks,... But there is currently no way to run MAC stuff on Linux.

Linux sources can be re-compiled for use with a MAC though. As for running MAC games on a PPC Linux machine,... I don't think that's possible either. OS X and PPC Linux are sufficiently different to make that a problem. Considering that open source software can be re-compilled (with a fair amount of work sometimes) to run on OS X, I don't see the point.

Hey,... OS X is just FreeBSD with the MAC interface thrown on top for the most part...

I don't know of many Linux people that are upset by that. MAC is our high-priced, proprietary friend.

Porting a Mac app takes a couple of weeks? I guess if it's a very simple command line app, but I can assure you that porting a complex GUI app from MacOS to Linux is significantly harder than porting a Windows app to Linux.

Thers a MAC emulator, called ARDI dont have the directory for it, but google it and ull probably find it somewhere. How do I know? Cuz it says so in my RedHat Linux 9 Bible. (by Chris Negaus)

Blizzard's Starcraft and Brood War are hybrid... as far as I know they've been Mac/Win compatible since the beginning. Hopefully a WINE solution will work.

I'm also actually hoping to get SC running on my linux box!

Starcraft works great thru WINE on my machine. That is like one of the very few games that i have gotten to work with excellent performance.

demersus, how about Brood War, have you been able to get that to work?

Well I know I have gotten to work pretty much any 2D Windows game I own (being especially true for Blade Runner, which I enjoy very much). However 3D games are much more difficult to get to work, and only a handful work for me (in Cedega). The ones that have less problems are those based on the Quake3 engine, except maybe for SOF2 (which has random "lock ups"). Other than that, the games I've tried, do not work or work, but not as expected.

i have successfully gotten broadwar and original starcraft to play almost perfectly in linux using wine. THe only problem is that in battle.net, you can't see any text, but you can still play online if you know where to click.
