Do you have some kind of Intel Speedstep or AMD Powernow "technology" that allows CPU runtime frequency scaling?

If I start Counterstrike and my CPU is at 1600 MHz and I switch it to 2800 MHz at runtime then it's too fast, too.

My laptop has a Athlon 2000+ CPU i don't realy know if it has AMD Powernow "technology"... or if my distro ( FEDORA CORE 3) is making it run like that.

How can i see if it does have?

As you've got a laptop with a decent Athlon CPU it should have Powernow. So you'd better disable it or set a constant frequency.

To make sure that you really have Powernow, please post /proc/cpufreq output.

You must be also having cpufreqd or similar software running. I don't know how to set fixed frequency with FC (Running Suse 9.2 with powersaved, dunno if FC has it too), but this can be made for sure via /proc interface too (distro independent).
