speech in Doom 3

I can get Doom 3 to load perfectly well but the speech is a bit messed up. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did they fix it?

I have AMD 64 3200+ venice core with NVIDIA 6600 with SUSE 9.3

Set your sound to use OSS instead of ALSA. There's a command line switch but you can also do it in the ingame setup menus.
