Angry Sound with Quake 3 on VIA 8237

Hello,
Coming straight to the point, sound doesn't work for Quake 3 and Doom 3 on my machine. The error is "cannot mmap /dev/dsp"
I found this thread. So, I got sound working with
Code:
echo "quake3.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
But when I start Quake 3 and start a game, it just freezes. I'm having to restart X all the time.
So, I added these lines in my modprobe.conf and here's the file
Code:
options snd-via82xx dxs_support=4
alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
options snd-card-0 index=0
install snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-via82xx && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove snd-via82xx { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-via82xx
But the game still freezes. Any idea what's going wrong?
