snes9x doesn't run fullscreen

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting snes9x to run any games fullscreen. Whenever I use the fullscreen option, I get the error:

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DGA" missing on display ":0.0".

I really don't know how to begin troubleshooting this. My video card is an ATI Radeon 8500 with FireGL Drivers from ATI installed (and working in games like quake 3 and Enemy Territory)

Thanks for your help.

Murray

It's described in the README file:

it will work just as bad as before. This happens because apparently, snes9x is running under 16bits colors. Or either you have a 24 bits desktop of you really are running at 256 colors mode .
A solution for this is to make snes9x run at full screen mode. To do so, you have to give write access to the user into the buffer/video memory. This is done like this:

su root
chown root snes9x gsnes9x
chmod 4755 snes9x gsnes9x
if you have a faster system, try using zsnes instead. It's a much more mature emulator with a very nice gui. Snes9x is a good second best and deserves respect considering how difficult it is to emulate Snes. Though, a lot of games has a very distorced sound, as Super Street Fighter and Megaman X series. Chips C4 and FX seems poorly supported as well.

You can find a lot, I mean it, a lot of .rpm packages here:

http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat.../idg/Emulators

I highly recommend you getting the rpm's _even_ if you use a non-rpm based distribution as Slackware. Get 'em then convert it to your distribibution native package with rpm2tgz or Alien. Works great and you won't tear your hairs appart trying to figure why Zsnes compiles in one machine, but not in another...

Regards!
